Bestest movie ever. AND YOU MISSED IT SAM.

Rating: 3/5 if you've watched Jumanji; otherwise it's perfect. Sloppy brotherly love, monsters, robots.

All I'm doing these days are movie reviews, like I'm some movie critic for the New Paper, though I never bother myself reading them. When movies so horrible get a DIE DIE MUST WATCH rating and when movies so good that you'll give up your right limb to watch it a second time gets ONE TICK.

All movie companies must have paid the media off in one way or another.

I'm busy with stuff I don't really understand. Every monday is unofficially movie day.

Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I caught the movie monday evening at Cineleisure and have been meaning to write about it but whenever I thought of something which vaguely made any sense, I forgot what I wanted to write. Then I finally realize what was holding me back, what got me thinking about the movie day and night.

Katie Leung, aka Cho Chang, aka the hawt asian chick, aka Harry's crush in the movie.

Just look at her straight long silky black hair and that angelic face, I could sit through the entire movie just looking at her; I would buy another movie ticket to see her.

I HATE HARRY POTTER. I FREAKING HATE HIM. I HOPE LORD VOLDEMORT WILL FINALLY ACTUALLY KILL THAT BASTARD OR SOMETHING.

Revisit to the dentist

I wasn't suppose to go for my checkup until December since my last visit. But this past two weeks haven't been pretty.

The dentist assistant called and asked how I was doing, I told her I was fine and the next day, 2 pieces of braces came loose. One disappeared while I was on the bus home, either it dropped out or I swallowed it.

This time wasn't as scary, he used the same blue mouth opener on me, and after getting used to it. It wasn't that painful actually. The only painful thing about the whole China.

"i couldn't sleep on the plane, the china people just shouted from one side to another side of the plane even after they had switched off the lights. and because of them, the queue for the toilet is so freaking long. China people probably all got this bladder problem."

Now my ears and jaws hurt.

Movie Review: Doom

Doom doom doom. Actually one of the first computer game that I've ever played (i think the first was some obscure title or maybe lode runner, i don't remember). You know what's the coolest about that? Playing a obviously choked gratuitously with gore and mindless killings when I'm like 5 years old?

I'm actually not too sure about the game's storyline but the movie's plot goes something like this. Researchers do secret and unethical experiments, things go awry, researchers die, protagonists pulled into the picture and they die one by one.

Watch it for the inane violence.

Jerry never knew how easy it was to be. How easy it was to just walk in, unobstructed, unimpeded; the feeling was totally surreal, like the world's worst soccer player with not a single defender in sight, not even the goal keeper.

"No Jerry, you're not the world's worst player! You're the best!"

It has been so long since he had this much freedom.

"Perhaps this is my lucky day," he whispered gentily over his shoulder, not to anyone in particular. He knew, but deep in his heart, he is content.

NaNoWriMo is an online writing adventure where everyday people from around the world create their own 50,000-word novel in just 30 days. There are no judges and no entry fees. There is just a deadline -- midnight November 30th. Over at the NaNoWriMo Singapore forums, meiteoh, the Malaysian (grrr..kidding) Municipal Liaison (kinda like the local god of NaNoWriMo) dropped by and gave some useful tips for conquering this seemingly impossible task. At least to me, when I don't even have a ready plot in my head.

1) If you're planning to hit a couple of thousand during the public holidays, do ALL your housechores ahead of time. ^_^ That'll leave you with little distraction.

2) Have a rough idea as to what you want to write about (boy meets girl, they fall in love, parents disapprove...that sort of very generic but yet specific idea) and just WRITE. Most of the time, plots unravel themselves along the way.

3) Dedicate one or two hours a day (or if you like, more) for just writing and nothing else. Turn off your MSN, MTV or the TV if it's distracting you. Put up notices, do whatever it takes just so you can get some quiet time to write.

Movie Review: The Brothers Grimm

I missed the call. Neglected to check my mail.

"Want go watch Brothers Grimm?" I saw the MSN message that popped up.

The Brothers Grimm is the story of two brothers who scam gullible dumbass villagers into believing that they are truly a duo of ghostbusters (of their time, I don't remember how they were referred to during the film). When eventually they were exposed, the brothers had to face the real deal, an enchanted forest with the likes of red riding hood, gingerbread man and a couple other references.

I'm sure my companions (movie companions) would disagree and this may not be the best adjective to use to describe a movie, but I thought that this movie was very fascinating.

Fascinating movies are very enjoyable, cause half the time the audience don't get what the film was trying to convey.

Using Talkr

I've heard of Talkr quite some time ago. However at that time, registration wasn't open and it was strictly for certain bloggers.

I've forgotten about it and didn't really bother to check back until I saw Lancerlord's post on it where he wrote a weird jumble of words for Talkr to translate into an audio post.

I thought it was pretty cool and so I decided to give talkr a try out. And here is the audio version of my last post.

It is a list of some of the longest English words I took from AskOxford. I was curious how could any of the words be pronounced. Apparently the system is not perfect and some of the words came out pretty weird. Especially those ending with "-ly".

Watching Rita

singaporegrrl, a Singaporean now living in Texas was going to get married in 7 days. Then news came of Rita and they had started packing their stuff.

We are packing up in preparation of Hurricane Rita. We are not evacuating the city of Houston, but we're going to go to FI's mom's house to hunker down. The city seems to be freaking out. Took me half an hour to find a gas station that had gas today in Montrose. Ended up going to Memorial and Wescott. Then I tried to go to the bank to deposit a cheque and BOA was shut and the ATMs were out of order. I'm like wtf, it's like the bloody apocalypse. As I was leaving, the Loomis Fargo truck came to refill the ATM and then when I drove by 10 minutes later, there were 10 cars waiting for it to leave to get money out of the ATM. Crazyness. Spoke to the folks in Singapore who are scheduled to arrive in Houston on Monday and mom is very concerned but I tried to explain the situation as honestly as possible. We do not have enough information to evacuate the city of Houston right now. And we need to stay off the road so that the people who have been issued mandatory evacuation notices can get out 'cos they have to leave. They don't have choice. All the highways are packed and have been all day. We can't get out of the city even if we wanted to. The news is on 24/7 and it's all weather. And it's hysterical.

I cannot imagine the state of chaos in Houston now. Oh singaporegrrl, be safe.

Why do we blog at 9am?

I woke up at an abnormal time 8.50am (these days, normal for me is lunchtime or perhaps teabreak) because I've got an alarm clock (read noisy construction site). Why do we blog at 9am? It's much too early, I mean even someone so healthy, fit and awesome like me need his beauty sleep.

Somehow I managed to arrive at NP at around 9.30. The seminar had already started but as I expected, majority of the audience consisted of the NP staff and lecturers because for them, (I presume) presence was compulsory (their attendance were taken during tea break, which btw, the fried bee hoon was very yummy, I never knew NP had such fantastic bee hoon. Either that, or I didn't had any breakfast).

The seminar all in all was actually pretty informative as the audience were much more vocal than the ones during the Bloggers.SG. Or inquisitive.

And needless to say, the seminar mostly focused around the issue of the questionable content on certain blogs (and their degree of freedom to speak their minds?) whats with the recent racist bloggers hooha.

After seeing the ten thousandth comment about xiaxue looking like some ugly skank. Or that she's a rude bitch. That image of her kinda got instilled in my mind when in actual fact I do not know her all that well.

She was also there at the seminar and I say screw the naysayers. Xiaxue is very hawt. Period.

Usually, I watch movies with a boh chup attitude. The lead actor gets killed. I don't bat an eyelid. Not that I'm inhuman or whatever self-righteous shit anyone can think of. Come on, it's just a frickin movie.

Nothing's real, even if it's supposedly 'based on a true story', it's still not real. It's still a bunch of melodramatic shite. Everyone who cheers or cry after a stupid show is either a girl or a sissy faggot.

Technorati brings out the narcissist in me thus seeing the above message over the past few months is indeed very frustrating.

I'm checking out several other services and have found Feedster to be pretty awesome. There's this another service worth looking into called Icerocket since Cowboy Caleb and Lancerlord kinda recommended it.

One Singapore Minute

I've always been interested in photography. I even participated in Photo Friday a grand total of four times. However all the photos were sub-standard and I didn't have the will to continue submitting poor quality photos to the site.

When I finally met Ah 9 (he bery mysterious one) during the Cowboy Bar (which I have been too busy to visit, i feel really bad) movie meetup, having seen all the beautiful photos he had taken and showcased, I immediately asked him for advice he would give to amateurs interested to take beautiful photos.

He told me to work on my angles (or something like that) and any camera will do fine, but with me being so unskilled, my photography skills are still nothing to be proud of.

Being a total mindless conformist, I wanted to take part in the 'One Singapore Minute' meme Mr Brown started for National Day. So I spent a couple of minutes browsing through my iPhoto library and found four 'not that poorly taken' photos.

I had no intention of asking Mr. Brown or any other blogger to do my homework. In fact, I was only asking for any constructive advice on anything about the title.

The fact that i asked many season bloggers was to get some precious insight on which title would sit well on the front cover of my report.

I've gotten contact lens. Even with all the telltale signs that it's gonna be really inconvenient and tears inducing, I went ahead with the decision.

I wanted to get monthly disposable lens but the optician wanted to earn more money and recommended I get permanent, hard, air permeable lens. Which is pretty awesome cause now I can no longer throw a tantrum like a little kid and not wear them anymore. They're really expensive.

Since they're so inconvenient, why did you choose to make them in the first place? Why?

I just returned to my secondary school this morning to get my 'O' Level Certificate.

I was dressed decently, no hip stylish hairstyle, no radical insane clothes, I strolled into the school compound being careful to avoid the construction work going on along the perimeter.

The construction of a shelter to the bus stop outside school my cohort have been asking for since 2001. The new principal who came in 2003 didn't like our batch but we all could be speculating, nothing much, just plain guesses.

My thoughts were interrupted when a security personnel came over and as polite as a 'law enforcer' can muster. He demanded for my ID. I was like WTF. Do I look like some terrorists to him?

Remember the SG Blogger quiz I did some time ago, according to Kenny's quiz, I'm kindhearted, hamson, generous, knowledgeable, witty, independent, honest, loyal, friendly, easy to get along with others, trustworthy, considerate, benevolent, charitable, forbearing, understanding, compassionate. In short, I'm perfect.

So how can I possibly be a threat to the school's well being, what the hell happened to the notion "your school is your second home"? I don't remember the last time I went home and any security guard asked for my ID.

Then I noticed besides this new security guard, the school has also implemented two new barriers. What are those exactly for? So the parents cannot bring their poor child in?

In that one year of interaction with the principal, I knew that was indeed very possible with the principal. Anything is possible with her.

I walked into the General Office, familiar faces greeted me but somehow, I realised I knew none of their names even after four years of education there. I mumbled a quick hi and stated my agenda as quickly.

He confirmed my identity and I proceeded to sign to collect my certificate. The results was just like the last time I saw them, nothing improved. The same old poor grades.

With my cert in one hand, I took the liberty to look around the school. For changes in particular. The recess bell rang and all the little kids came running out, lower secondary, sec one-s and two-s. I wanted to get a cheap 40c Ribena but it's Monday and the queue is really long.

I took a glance at the art room and my heart skipped a beat. They were renovating it again. That dreaded place is just not worth it, but I guess the board of directors think otherwise, art is afterall the 'new direction' the school is heading towards.

Really. I know it's already ending its run in local cinemas soon and how much it totally sucked ass.

However, I met Darth Vader few months back when I was in Taipei, after taking the photo, he told me it was necessary that I go watch Episode III as soon as it's released. I wanted to watch it with my friends but they are all either spoilers or geeks who already watched the film with their little girlfriends and boyfriends or caught the film the first day of its release (or even worse, the pre-release!!).

Everyone already know what was going to happen, it's just not cool to watch the movie with your friends who will suddenly for no reason whatsoever, "I know what's going to happen next, they skywalker will turn into that darth vader guy with huffy voice and breathe like he's dying or something."

Four days ago, after school, I called her and we met up in the atrium. We're probably the last two person who haven't caught Episode III. Then JK joined us. Apparently he had already watched Star Wars, he told us it was the most boring movie he ever saw.

Either that or he's not willing to watch the movie a second time.

We wanted to go Plaza Singapura. I wasn't sure how to get there but fortunately my friend who brought his notebook along with him 24/7 immediately opened up the Singapore Infomap and got all the available bus (thanks roy).

We changed our minds when the bus drove through Orchard Road and we alighted promptly. In the end, they both decided to watch that stupid animal movie.

However to be honest, that stupid animal movie was pretty entertaining. Especially when the zebra tried to save the chick's life and brought it out and a huge crocodile came out of nowhere and gobbled it up. The entire theatre burst out laughing somewhere along that point, showing a lot about Singaporeans' sadistic nature.

I enjoyed the movie so much that I really wanted to get its soundtrack. That song by the Squirrel King is still playing in my head.

Got around to reading comments on my last post in which I attempted to write as abstract as possible. Evidently it wasn't much of a success as only 2 of my minute number of readers left comment.

The very nice Anna from wonky tong who is anything but wonky. She recently wrote about the things she missed about Singapore, furthermore, could this be an indication she's coming back soon? (pray hard all you Anna's hardcore followers)

Everyone should also check out Samantha's weblog. She's a Singaporean studying in Australia (from what I gathered but I could be wrong).

She recently wrote about her ghastly encounter at 3.45 in the morning and that time she got to rub shoulders with the Australian Idol, Guy Sebastian. How cool is that?

And what's not to like about a girl who dares to display her affection for that ugly Spongebob Squarepants so openly. Of course, I'm not so brave as to tell everyone that I have Spongebob Squarepants as my desktop wallpaper.

Thursday:

I went for the briefing regarding the overseas community trip to either Hue, ancient capital of Vietnam or Kota Kinabalu, Sabah capital.

Both seemed equally appealing but I took the application form for Vietnam at the end of the briefing. The shirts there are dirt-cheap, so said the lecturer-in-charge with weird pronunciation.

Friday:

Today I was in canteen 4 together with my group. I just got a can of lemon barley and was walking back to them when I spotted a notebook screen, with the words "singapore official porn site" plastered at the top.

I really wanted to get over and ask, "What you doing at my weblog?" but you see that was a pretty cute girl and I'm sure you all know that I'm a really shy guy.

Saturday:

It was my little cousin's birthday and my aunt invited the entire family over to the chalet she booked at Downtown East for a BBQ session. My family got there the earliest and being very kind souls, we helped set the fire going. In one way or another.

All the other relatives soon joined us. Mostly to reap the benefits of our hard work.

It's not everyday we get to meet up and this time, I got a good chance to chat with my cousin's fiancée. She's pretty awesome and we even got around to having a couple of games of pool together. I should have played with my cousin more often, cause he's just so god damn pro.

It's been eons

since I've been there. It's unusual that Singapore as a garden city, we have to travel such a distance for a so-called ideal location for exercising. When walking downstairs is no longer sufficient. What lacks only is the sound of the ocean waves. ~~And maybe the girls skating around in bikinis.~~

I donned on my magical shoes with wheels for the first time in months. The straps were loose and after working on it for fifteen minutes, I was finally satisfied. Or just that I couldn't care less about the loose laces.

And I was immediately vulnerable. Without someone holding me along, I was hobbling along like an infant. But I recalled that I knew how to skate, the time I used to spend falling down and falling down and falling down, just to learn how to walk with my skates on.

The first half hour of familiarizing myself with the sport again was horrible. Treading along lonelily across the bicyclists/inline-skaters lane (Yes, sad but true. I'm the only inline skater in my family), avoiding raging cyclists and distracted little kids at the same time. Inline skating was a hazard.

The place was no longer what it used to be, quaint, quiet and peaceful. I don't know what changed all that or what was the intention to change all that but now it was no different from a bustling wet market ~~besides the girls skating around in bikinis~~.

With a iBook identical to mine to boot. I mean how many cute NP Mac girls can you find in NP?

Several years back when American Idol came onto our television screens. There is no blogs you can find not dedicating an entire post to it or at the least give it a slight mention.

This time around, American Idol is conspicuously non-existent in the Singapore weblog community. I'm really puzzled. Why? Why not? Is it because one william hung is more than enough?

Tiger's been out for ages

and I am probably one of the last Mac user to have it installed.

Everyone else has been raving about oh-how-great the 200+ new features. Some people even went to the extent of saying this is the best and most worthwhile Mac OSX ever.

I really dig what Apple is doing and I have zero intentions to be a wet blanket or anything, but seriously, after fiddling around for this couple of days, yes, all the nifty new additions are nice but there isn't anything really revolutionary (besides Spotlight and Automator).

Surprisingly, I really love Apple's new Konfabulator ripoff Dashboard. Pre-Dashboard days, Konfabulator was my MacOSX gameboy, mostly Tetris. For now, I'm satisfied with the default dictionary, calculator and translation widget.

Tiger installation was a success and since I was doing everything myself (not by that Apple sales guy), a partition was set up as desired.

However, my heart is aching. My backup was a failure. I don't usually have this habit of keeping backups but when you're doing a clean install. Those five words sounds especially dreadful.

I left out my painstakingly typed in address book. My entire repository of names, addresses, e-mails, numbers; erased.

Despite spending more than two hours 'backing up' my iTunes library, somehow about a hundred song files didn't make the transfer and just like my contacts information; erased.

That's ok right? Just spend some more time and re-import all the missing song files. Everyone should be like Mr Miyagi, "I have the original CD and therefore didn't steal music."

And in the process of restoring my iTunes library, I dug up all my old CDs (covered with cobwebs and dust mites).

I found my entire collection of Stefanie Sun Yan Zi's albums.

Yes I admit. I was a Stefanie Sun groupie. I bought every single original album she released and I even go to all her autographs sessions and shit (yes I was one of those thousands squeezing in the rampant crowd, no, not trying to touch Stefanie). I'm only one step away from joining her fan club.

I was having dinner with my family and as usual, all our faces were glued to the television (Yes I know, bad habit that should be corrected). We were watching Channel 8 evening news and as usual, the same old repeated boring news we see used over and over again between all Mediacorp's channels.

Then suddenly images of girls kissing girls, girls hugging girls in the most seductive manner your mind can muster popped up onto the screen. Everybody stood up immediately (Yes I know, this sounds totally lame). The news was about the rise of number of girls posing in various suggestive positions and then having the photos posted on the world wide web.

My parents, not surprising, lamented, "Why youngsters nowadays so like that ar? You see most from all girls school. Something must be wrong with their brains."

And for the sake of prosperity.

"Oh la la..."

Urm, I meant, "what atrocious behaviour!! Bad bad girls!"

After randomly flashing all the photos they managed to harvest. They began airing the interviews which was totally necessary I must say. One really stood out.

An uncle with not much hair left, "It's not okay lor. I mean this is the school's responsibility to not only teach OUR kids academically but also morally."

All schools listen up. It's now your duty to look after your students. All parents will blame you if their daughters go and take such photos.

Mediacorp. Nice snooping job you guys did but since you guys didn't share the source where the news group got the offensive photos. This Bloggercon idea has been going around for a very very long time but the organisation part was always a pretty huge obstacle. Using Meetup.com was quite an ingenius solution but as the organiser wasn't really a renowned blogger, as I was told, such meetups were usually very pathetic as the turnout was pretty lukewarm.

Everyone really wanted to have this Bloggercon. You know like having the opportunity to meet all the bloggers, up close and personal. To have the ability to associate the words you've come to worship or ponder upon with a real person and not some made up joker.

Granted, all the top and more prominent bloggers have been meeting up several times, but do give us average-nobody-is-reading-or-really-care bloggers a chance to get your autographs la!

I mean if I do meet the Finicky Feline or the Mr Brown, I would probably be quivering at my knees and be so thrilled that I wouldn't have the courage to approach them just to say hi.

I must really give props to the brains behind Tomorrow. This was the ultimate solution to organising the Singapore Bloggercon. As it rode on the wave of Acidflask incident to worldwide fame and recognition, Tomorrow has established itself as the mother queen of Singapore blogging scene.

Ice skating is frigging cool.

Literally.

I went ice skating with the most awesome camp group ever 2 days ago. It was also worth to note that it was my virginal experience at ice skating.

In the beginning, the experience was traumatic. No matter how many times I tried. I kept falling down hard. On the ice, not once or twice. The number of times was closer to like ten times each round I made.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Many other ~~cute girls~~ fellow camp mates seeing how I suck at ice skating, ~~held my arm affectionately and~~ helped me up countless times and also taught me all the tricks in the book.

And pretty unbelievable, by the end of the day I was skating around like nobody's business. Someone told me it was very similar to inline skating [*Hand to forehead*] why didn't anyone told me that earlier. After the revelation, I quickly implemented my m4d inline skating ski11z into ice skating and all was smooth sailing.

So much for my virginal ice skating experience. No longer a virgin.

I am a certified Argive warrior.

The most awesome camp group ever.

1. Get a pair of slippers you know no one else will get. Otherwise be prepared to wear a one-size smaller pair. "Un-recommended" brands include Nike, Adidas, OP and that now very cheap Trail slippers which used to be all the rage.

2. Semi-ignore the 'Do not bring any valuables' at the bottom of the "Welcome to the camp" form and bring along a mobile phone. It's just plain tough to ~~get girls' numbers~~ keep in touch with your fellow camp mates with just a small piece of scrap and a mechanical pencil.

3. Strepsils. Lots and lots of Strepsils. All that cheering isn't being very kind to your throat. Wouldn't want to lose your voice on the third day would you?

4. Do get used to bathing in under 1-3 minutes with 2 other guys. Especially useful when dozens of angry, dirty, tired guys are outside the cubicle banging on the door.

5. Switch to wearing boxers. When playing Truth or Dare, walking around in boxers is definitely less embarrassing than in your tiny pan-ties.

6. Pray hard that MSN messenger is going to increase the number of allowed contacts. Can anyone out there confirm this? I wouldn't want my old contacts to be replaced.

7. When your Group Leaders (GL) advice you not to sleep on the last night. Don't. Unless of course you think this is cool.

Permanent markers + You = Literally silly face.

8. There was this girl who came with high heels and a huge luggage with the audacity to request for a room and a bed with at the most 4 people. She went home the very first day.

9. Missing the GLs and the cheers. Like Ajax (pronounced I-X) who sang the Argive's cheer while bathing. Valerie (who is seriously hot), Zhou (for being totally awesome and 'on') and that other girl whose name eludes me (who is also very very hot).

It's getting real scary. I'm spending quite some time over at Tomorrow.sg, I even made the list as 'Top Contributor'.

What will Agagooga say of me? What will become of me when I'm no longer innocent and charming?

Actually, I think that with the formation of a Boing-Boing-like community, Singaporean blogs have lost their innocence and maybe even some of their charm.

A growing segment of the Singaporean blogosphere - in absolute, even if not relative terms - now seems incestuously small, just like Singapore itself, and the Singaporean diaspora - at least the Singaporean student diaspora. Everyone links to everyone else, everyone trackbacks everyone else, everyone talks about everyone else and everyone reads everyone else, especially the same few heavyweights. Perhaps it's a fetishism by Singaporeans of all things Singaporean.

When something happens on or with one blog, the rest will be quick to pick up on it, spread the word, and pen some commentary, as if something had just happened to someone in the neighbourhood. Gossip and comments flow, just like in a MeatSpace neighbourhood. Wash, rinse and repeat recursively.

For this reason also, some form of bowdlerisation can sometimes be sensed on bloggers' parts, perhaps to reduce the amount of flak they might get for being controversial (unless the point, of course, is to be controversial), and also avoid offending certain other members of the blogosphere by saying what they really think of them and/or their blogs.

The Internet is supposed to be a global phenomenon, but the Singaporean blogosphere seems to be turning into itself. When does a support and networking system turn into a sticky web? When does cohesion and closeness slip into insularity and parochialism?

After a while, everything seems to blends into an indistinct, miscible whole, which is why I don't bother to keep up with all the good (as well as the occasionally good) blogs. In any case, if something is really good, it's bound to be linked to by other blogs.

This total copy and paste cannot be done any other way because of Agagooga's writing being presented incohesively. From a porcupine's sex life to his Microeconomic Analysis I exam. There was no way I could point to the link of the post without you mistaking me for talking about an infantile matter, for example, like how porcupines procreate.

Either that or I'm too superficial to understand his compositions.

(You do notice I'm just like one of the Singaporean bloggers who had just played into Agagooga's belief. He wrote this and unsurprisingly, similar to the 'infantilism' issue, everyone wrote about it, though to a lesser extent. Once bitten twice shy.)

This is what makes the internet tick. This is the back bones of weblogging. This is the exact basics of our modern society 'social networking'. No, I'm not talking about this kind of social networking. Friendster is just sad and overdone. When it came out, it was like the next step of 'making friends without boundaries'. Then we realise what a farce it really is when all the opportunists came up with their own simulacrum.

Blogging itself is a linking slugfest. An activity which sustains itself through linking, but that is obviously not enough. Hence the addition of self commentary, be it profound or childish, this is what differentiates blogging, this is what makes blogging stand out as something much more unique. And all this can only be attributed to the 'stickiness' Agagooga speaks of.

This idea of talking about the same old news over and over again isn't really that new. This applies to the whole world. Remember when Bush was spotted with the 'ipod one'? I was in Taipei during that time and even without access to the internet, i got the news pretty quick (tv). How is this possible? Everyone was talking about it. Mac users and non-Mac users alike, I bet even Steve himself was probably gloating to all his pals.

Clearly, such repetition and unoriginality isn't exclusive to Singapore. But conceivably, such a perspicacity could be because of our small network of bloggers, as 2% to 7% of the entire USA population is still pretty large as compared to us.

when I came across this shop. It was selling all kinds of stuff; toys, bags, t-shirts. Then this little gadget in their bottom shelf caught my attention.

Apparently, this isn't the first time something like this happened.

I thought "What a blatent rip-off." and the sales girl came over and I thought I would have some fun with her.

"Hey, isn't this the latest Playstation Portable from Sony?" in a most ignorant and innocent tone.

From the corner of my eye I saw that she was totally not at all flustered. I was expecting her to freak out or something but instead she retorted,

"No, this one is different, not produced by Sony. Our Gameking 2 has better games and is also much more cheaper than theirs."

Do anyone here still remember that obscure little place called the Speaker's Corner. The one located at Hong Lim Park, remember? That really secluded place in which the gahmen set up where after registering, we can freely conduct speeches for whoever is interested.

The one situated right beside a police station. Just in case right? And also convenient for our dear gahmen.

Then Nilsinelabore started seeing hits from Singapore based domains and decided to join Acidflask. Nilsinelabore, should I also be worried? I also get plenty of Singapore based domains le.

But if somebody decides my weblog posts warrents a law suit (please don't) I know I will just hide in one corner and give my apologies like what the wise one Jeremy Chan did.

And the next thing I know, Gilbert Koh is "quitting" blogging too. The word "quitting" is a tad too much of an exaggeration in this case.

sure are a fickle bunch. One moment everyone's talking about the Integrated Resort and the next, infantilism.

But no, I'm not going to follow the foot steps of the countless juvenile bloggers and give some insensible comment on the state of the Singapore Blogosphere.

We mature people (hi Shianux, hi Singapore Commentator!) do not waste our time dwelling on such childish issues of no significance whatsoever. We have much better things to do.

Like talking about our Integrated Resort (It's not talked to death you infantile bloggers!).

Did you know there were actually talks about opening a Disneyland in Singapore around the MacRitchie Reservoir area. The Gahmen even pledged to extend the MRT line there but apparently the plans blew out of the window when Disney demanded Singapore give them the land they would need and pay them a sum of money, way before construction of Disneyland even begin.

No wonder we need to rely on this Integrated Resort.

See, even our beloved MM agrees that this is no monkey business and should not be taken lightly.

I'm pretty overwhelmed by all the facetiousness ideas about the Integrated Resort. So I took the liberty of doing some googling and came up with this little summary courtesy of our Government Consultation Portal. Which gave a link to the speech my favourite PM of all time gave on 18 April 2005.

However if the small gaming component of the totally family friendly Integrated Resort gets out of hand, do not worry, the gambling addiction treatment centre is here. Now with a hotline plus plans to train more personnel for more personal treatment for gamblers.

This endeavor is really commendable. $9.50 to watch a film is really ridiculous. Poly students were all very concerned about this matter to the extent of imploring everyone to download movies and buy pirated vcds from JB, which I do not condone.

I mean why support the JB pirates? Get from TS la, they also sell pirated vcds le. (if you've never heard, TS was recently fined quite heftily for selling pirated lord of the rings vcds)

I mean I was just walking through the night market and there was like nearly ten stalls, permanent and make-shift, selling nothing but dildos and a huge variety of sex toys that makes me blush just thinking about them.

I would really have wanted to take a couple of photos to accompany my little recount but whenever I whipped out my camera, the stall owners will holler at me in their native taiwanese tongue and in fear of embarrassment, I usually will slowly back away into the crowd.

You know that girl with her little fragments of time?

We met up two days ago for dinner at city hall and since we aren't eating at Shangri-la or somewhere similarly posh, I dressed up pretty casual. T-shirt plus jeans combination, sweet and simple.

And I saw her in this red blouse but I pretty much forgotten all the other details as my eyes were fixated on a shiny object dangling from her palm. On closer look, it was a key.

"Hey, you're that don't-know-what-yang right?" sheena hollered and tossed me the key, "here's a meeting present, it's for that vintage vespa i drove here with, my chauffeur will be fetching me home later so I wouldn't be needing that wreck anymore..."

I was dumb struck. Some one would call a vintage vespa a wreck? And I thought, this girl must be a spoilt millionaire spendthrift. But to hell with it, what can be more fun than hanging around a girl who was not afraid to spend?

So I decided to stick around.

We slowly walked towards the Cafe Cartel at Suntec, actually it was more of me hobbling behind as she was purposely dropping 50$ notes and enjoying seeing me bending down and picking them up. I thought I heard her muttering "Filth!" under her breath but I was too excited to actually be bothered by her.

You're now probably asking, which millionaire will want to dine at Cafe Cartel.

That was what I was thinking when she suddenly snapped, "What the hell! You bastard, why didn't you tell me the food here is so god damn cheap?!"

I stared at her with bambi eyes and she flared up, "No mood already. Let's go play pool."

We got up this sleek black Mercedes and her chauffeur, a 68 year old old man was shaking throughout the whole journey to the Ang Mo Kio Pool centre. Sheena must have been very mean or cruel to her chauffeur...I tremble just thinking about all the evil things she could have done to him. Or what scars lie beneath his long sleeve coat.

When we arrived at the pool centre, I realised the entire facility was empty besides us. Oh my fucking god, she must have booked the fricking whole pool centre.

We started the game and being a gentlemen, I let her start the game (and also being very afraid what this rich nothing-better-to-do girl will do to me). In the end, the only thing I did the entire game was just watching her play and applying chalk to my cue stick. Every shot she took was for 'placing', sheena just took one shot after another. And soon we were about to start our next game.

"You're one boring fuck."

Before I could reply, she swung her cue stick and struck me on my head. That was the last thing I remembered.

When I woke up, I discovered I was dumped at a secluded corner in Toa Payoh Central. She took away all my money and possessions and left me this picture.

Attached was a small note, "Thanks for the waste of time loser. You better not blog about this or I will make sure you will suffer very horribly :)"

Yes, the smiley face was there too.

This is the reason for this late entry but I've decided to take my chances after much thought to this matter, to expose all the evil deeds Sheena had done. I sure hope you didn't for a second believed her story and that you're not taken in by her cute photo.

I hope Sheena wouldn't be able to locate me, but with her precious secret weapon, the fragments of time, my future looks bleak. Pray for me.

I'm sure you've seen plenty of ipod ads everywhere or if you have no life and stay home all day, you've probably seen one of their television ads.

And if you say yes to any of the above, for a moment there you must have thought, "How can I be cool, just like them?" "How do I achieve that oh-so-perfect tan?"

I'll let you all in on this little secret.

1) Get adobe photoshop which is an awesome piece of software but if you are feeling too cheap and always wondered how suckers feel, i suggest checking out this website, they'll ipod your photo for $20. Or in their words, 'Get iPodified today.'

Wow, iPodified, thanks for your contribution to english geniuses.

2) Choose a suitable photo. For example, if you're a loser, this photo fits you aptly.

3) Use the Lasso Tool and briefly do a outline of the figure.

4) Switch to Quick Mask Mode. Use the black paint brush to refine your outline and the white brush to undo any mistake. You should get something like this when you're done.

5) Switch back to the standard mode and this what you should see.

6) Click Edit >> Fill and choose Black.

7) Click Select >> Inverse.

8) Click Edit >> Fill and choose Colour...

You can then choose whatever colour you fancy but I strongly suggest pink.

9) Viola

Don't you find it all too familiar? Isn't this like the winning formula for all family related drama serials? Especially those chinese films our favourite Liang Dao Yan directs.

Ok, let's picture this all too common scenario who see arising in such films.

(often detestable but affectionate) mother: You slut! How can you make such an important decision yourself?

teenage (often cute) girl: Can you please treat me like an adult, you fucktard?

But just yesterday, there was this guy who was particularly ecstatic to treat me as a adult.

"Wow, complete 'O' levels liao ar? Big boy la..."

My barber, who was more than willing to charge me the adult price.

He promised me Wong Lee Hom.

Instead, I got Rock Lee.

So I was pretty pissed.

But I digress.

Do you know what's worse than a teenage wanting to be treated like an adult?

An adult wanting to be treated like a kid. And that horribly pointless statement which always accompanies such a notion.

Your wife caught you playing a dumb game with your child and to try to save yourself of all possible embarrassment, you just laugh as nonchalantly as you can muster, "I'm still a child at heart."

If the scientist had reported his findings to the proper authorities, maybe there wouldn't be so many deaths.

why is it good to be a blogger and a Today columnist?

Besides earning some pocket money, you get the opportunity to write the words sexy, tongue, chest in the same article on the nation's sole free publication without getting sued. That's pretty significant cause just as I am writing this, someone is suing somebody else somewhere. Probably for something ridiculously silly.

I wasn't able to get a print version of Today today (meaning today's Today) and I'm kinda feel like kicking myself in the spleen.

Cause I mean when was the last time you got mentioned on the national paper?

very very childish lor.

It goes something like this, Xiaxue recently got signed up by local brand t-shirt company called, urmz, Localbrand to represent them and act as their ambassador.

This story got featured in Blogger Buzz and Mr Tony Pierce decided to use her photo (awesome blog, one of the first few weblogs I really enjoyed reading, way before Mr Miyagi exposed him to the masses).

Mr Brown decided to put his reputation at stake and took to posing for his future t-shirt.

Then Mr Miyagi proceeded to join the ~~madness~~ fun.

And when Mr Brown decided to declare this as an community open project, hell broke loose.

Faith Toh ~~threatened~~ persuaded her friend to pose with her.

Spurred La Idler to do her own xiaxue with his "You are allowed to mask your face if you are a chicken-shit anonymous coward want to maintain your anonymity." comment.

Jim also very enthusiatic but shy, so he used ~~south park's create-a-character~~ this (more details and control).

It is about the state of little children in our society today. Don't jump to your own conclusions, I'm not gonna write about our country's future leaders.

I was with my friend at the Ang Mo Kio Zone X arcade. I just took out my Tapz card (that amazing shite of technology where video games arcade make you pay them first) when suddenly this little kid bumped into me. I dropped my card but I immediately helped him up.

He got up and with a Tapz card in hand, started to quickly move away (note that it's quickly move away, not run, arouse less attention?).

I stopped him, "That's my TAPZ card you're holding." in the most polite manner one can muster, he's a adorable little boy after all.

"No, it's mine."

I looked around. There wasn't a 2nd card on the floor in sight.

"You must have dropped it somewhere, you see this card? Just like mine..."

"My one also like that le!" he retorted.

I was getting nervous "My card the credits can redeem $20 le..."

"My one also can.." he sounded as if he was going to cry/scream.

"Let's make a run for it, fuck the kid," my friend pulled me away "Don't be deceived by his age, he's probably out to cheat you."

I wasn't too sure about his reasoning but I wasn't too willing to lose my hard-earned TAPZ credits anytime soon. I complied.

And here's when the everything becomes so fucking clear.

The kid didn't follow us. He didn't shout. He didn't cry. He didn't make a fuss. He didn't even let out a fucking whimper.

If someone stranger claimed one of my possession as his, I will sure beat him up, if not at least call the cops.

And what did the kid do? Absolutely fucking nothing.

But being a very nice guy with a conscience, I felt horrible. Snatching candy from a little child.

So do you agree that the boy is a big conniving bastard out to swindle me, or simply a misunderstood wussy who just didn't dare to stand up for himself?

Tell me please.

Especially that auntie at POSB.

I was there just yesterday morning to get my debit card (Yes, I'm finally old enough to get a debit card, old enough. Don't laugh, you're making me go red). The queue was really long as with all the other local banks. Everyone was looking around suspiciously hugging their bank books as if someone wanted to snatch all their fortune or something. I pity the elderly security guard, if something really happened. He's probably screwed.

Why do Singapore even allow banks to hire elderly security guards anyway? I can imagine a trio of bank robbers barging into a POSB branch and randomly shooting everyone, will the elderly and wise security guard do anything? I seriously doubt.

Almost as scary as Britney Spears singing, but on second thought, probably not.

I took a glance at the counter girls. Aunties i mean. Whatever happened to all those cute 21 years old girls wearing cute little skirts who used to work there? But that's ok, I'm only there to apply for my card (don't laugh, you're making me blush). But the big thing was that nobody was smiling.

When it was my turn, it was a lady in her forties. I smiled but she didn't even return the favour. She quickly went through all the procedures with me providing a horrendous signature.

She stared at my signature and gave me a "that's gonna be the signature you'll be using?" look. All the time didn't even bother to give a slight smile. Then when she was done, she gave me this pamphlet, "Can you help me fill up this form?" and I looked up to the widest grin I've seen the entire week, "Customer feedback form."

This was a huge difference from what I could have gotten used to in Canada.

It usually goes something like this, the difference between our fine city and Canada.

- in Canada "It's okay honey, it's alrite as long as you don't get hurt" usually coming from those plentiful cute canadian waitresses .
- in Singapore "Wah lau ey!! Boi, you spoil that plate must pay money one ok? Later you make a crack on my par-quack you die ar!" coffee shop auntie who dyed her hair blonde.

I bumped into someone,
- in Canada "It's okay honey, it's alrite as long as you don't get hurt" usually coming from those plentiful cute canadian female pedestrians.
- in Singapore "Wah lau ey!! Boi, you better watch where you walking, you injure me you die.." auntie who's coming home from the market with seven bags in hand who dyed her hair blonde.

I accidentally damaged a tv,
- in Canada "It's okay honey, it's alrite as long as you don't get hurt" usually coming from those plentiful cute canadian female roommates.
- in Singapore "Wah lau ey!! Boi, you know how much that wega plasma tv cost me or not. My 2 month celery you know? I'm gonna start deducting from your pocket money and that's final!! I'm your mother ok, don't you talk back..." auntie who's also your mum who dyed her hair blonde.

The switch from IE

to Firefox isn't that bad after all. I usually wouldn't bother myself with individuals who refuses to make the switch until their IE turns around and screw up their internet happiness but I really wanted this guy to see something and his IE just refused to budge. So i kindly helped him downloaded the installer and sent it to him through msn.

He: done
Me: You successfully installed firefox?
He: ya..
Me: So, what you think of it? :)
He: there's a difference?

So as you can see, from an IE user who just switched, there's isn't really any difference between IE and firefox so you should switch today before it doesn't matter anymore. Or make a more intelligent choice and switch to Opera.

I've finally got about installing World of Warcraft.

The game was out like 4 months ago, so if the rumours out there are true and people is still playing this game, expect sporadic updates, ala Chu Yeow, the owner of Redemption in a blog who is very much addicted to WOW.

Excuse me now I'm going to scrutinize the WOW box.

In the meantime, check out this guy's vids. Especially episode 4.
